The Government has announced that due to the effects of COVID-19, an extension has been made to the usual personal tax filing deadline of 31st January for the 2019/20 tax year, where tax returns were due to HMRC by 31st January 2021.
This extension means that personal tax returns are now able to be submitted to HMRC up until 28 February 2021 without a late filing penalty being applied.
HMRC have stated that taxpayers should still pay any tax due by 31st January 2021, as late payment penalties, separate to late filing penalties are still being applied by HMRC if tax due to be paid isn’t received by HMRC by 31st January 2021.
If your 2019/20 personal tax return is still not prepared and you require this doing and submitting to HMRC, we encourage you to contact us as soon as possible as we have limited availability to still ensure your tax return is prepared and submitted to HMRC by the new deadline of 28th February 2021. As always though, we always do our very best to ensure that we can allow time for such cases if we are contact prior to the filing deadline date arriving.
